Update on the Graduate SchoolKick off The graduate schools at the faculties of Architecture, Industrial Design and Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science have officially been kicked off at September 22nd. All PhDs that start their PhD at these faculties will officially been enrolled in the Graduate School from now on. Other faculties will follow on January 1st. Outcomes of the PhD survey Last spring a survey was sent to all PhDs at the university with questions regarding their opinion on facilities, supervision and support during their PhD. In general, we seem rather happy with our PhD, giving it a 7.2 on average. Approximately one third of all PhDs experience a delay and 12.6% says that they have experienced problems with their supervision. The results have been analyzed for the entire university and separately for each faculty. The outcomes will be published on the new Graduate School website www.graduateschool.tudelft.nl GS Website online The Graduate School website has been launched recently. For elaborate information on the Graduate School, all news and updates, please go to www.graduateschool.tudelft.nl Past VrijMiBoFor PhD students working hours are long, and work does not limit itself to working days. Nonetheless, also PhD students need to relax!!! Therefore, we from PromooD present our monthly VrijMiBo (VrijdagMiddagBorrel), an after-work event held every last Friday of the month. So after each hard month of work, you can get together with your fellow PhDs and get in touch with the community and prove that also PhDs do have social skills! During the last outings, we went to see Horrible Bosses at the cinema on the 5th of August and we went bowling on the 24th of August. We hope you can join us the next time! September BBQPromooD invited you on the 16th of September to celebrate the last summer days with a BBQ! We had a nice time with many other PhDs, accompanied with grilled meat, delicious salada and drinks It was a big success, with 110 PhDs attending! This competition enables PhD candidates of TU Delft to share experiences and to acknowledge good supervision practices at the university. The purpose of this university-wide award is to acknowledge outstanding performances of a supervisor. We are interested in knowing what your supervisor has done over and above what has been expected of him/her. Printer's marketLet the experts in the printing field inform you about all you need to know about preparing your thesis for publication. PromooD has arranged 6 printing companies to be present at the Printer's Lecture 2011, ready to inform you and answer all your questions and doubts about printing your thesis. LEO vs. PromooD PubQuizCome and join us for an evening of trivia as we compete against the Leiden University to show who has really got the brains! There will be questions about the sciences and arts - but also current events, popular entertainment, history, music... in short, anything and everything! Leave your iPad at home, and just bring your yourself and other PhD friends to join us for this evening of friendly competition. As always, the first beer is on us! It will be will be within the framework of the Graduate School. More information coming soon. Graduate school coursesPromooD will be organising two courses that will be part of the graduate school. More information coming soon. Strategic roadmap 2020You might have heard or read in the Delta that the Board is currently reviewing and developing its strategy for the years ahead. This has been called the TU Delft Roadmap 2020. The Faculty of TPM developed a serious game to support the discussion on the University’s strategy. Many groups have played the game in the past months, from scientists, to support staff, to trainees, to external VIP’s. Soon PhDs will be asked for their input. |
