In this trip you'll be able to see how it was designed and built after the big flood in February 1953 and take a boat trip to see the surge barrier from the water front.

On November 22, the TU Delft Library, in collaboration with Elsevier Science, will organize the seminar ‘How to write a World-class Paper’.
This seminar is especially designed for young researchers and PhD candidates. The concept has already proven to be successful at many international Universities, including the Dutch Universities of Wageningen and Maastricht.

A majority of lecturers has already taken the mandatory English test. However, for those of you who haven’t yet done so, the English Test for Lecturers (this includes Phd-students) now takes place at the TBM faculty. This eliminates the need for you to travel to Leiden to take the test.
Test dates:
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th November 2011
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 17th, 18th, 19th January 2012
- Friday 20th January 2012 (morning only)

From September 2011 onwards all the English courses for lecturers and Phd-students –the so-called Admission and Proficiency courses will take 14 weeks instead of 21 weeks. This is by popular demand from TUDelft teaching staff.
The lecture duration will be 3 hours instead of 2 so that the number of contact hours will be maintained.
All courses commence in the first week of Semester 2, 2011-2012 (6-10th February 2012) - and will end before the summer break (16th June 2012)!
- Admission 1/2 (B2 low): Tuesdays, 10.45-13.15 (starts 7th February2012)
- Admission 3 (B2 high): Thursdays, 10.45-13.15 (starts 9th February2012)
- Proficiency 1/2 (C1 low): Thursdays, 10.45-13.15 (starts 9th February 2012)
- Proficiency 3 (C1 high): Wednesdays, 13.45-15.30 (starts 8th February 2012)

"Lending people, not books"
The idea is to form a collection of living books, people with a nice story to tell. Then we will have a get-together of a small group of PhDs and the rector, and two chosen living books will tell their story, followed by an informal discussion.
