PromooD
What is PromooD?

Promood is the independent representative body of the PhD candidates at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). We are an organization initiated by PhD candidates from TU Delft. Our board is consisting of 12 members, who are actively involved in specific tasks, going from legal affairs to social activities.

As part of TU Delft, we try to reach as many PhD candidates as possible, to inform them with the Doctoral Regulations, the news and activities organized by TU Deflt and other organizations.

We also organize many events to gather our community and have a better communication among PhD candidates. We find it very important that PhD students meet each other, since doing a PhD is a long process and very isolating.

As a representative body of PhD candidates, we also signalize bureaucratic obstacles and general problems that some candidates encounter during their PhD. We make sure that the vertical communication between the administration and the PhD candidate is effective.

Sinterklaas Party 2011 (with photos)
Social events

Last month Promood celebrated the typical Dutch tradition of Sinterklaas with a whole bunch of its PhD members (and also one or two non-members who heard about the event through hearsay and decided to show up!) and it was a lot of fun! Every year Promood organizes the gift-exchanging event for Sinterklaas where everyone brings a small gift of up to 5 euro, which then gets thrown in a bag, shuffled with all the other gifts and distributed back to the participants. The gifts tend to be humorous and this year they ranged from pineapples all the way to collections of old classic books, complete with the tattered and stained look!

Whether you want to join next year's gift exchange or not (it's entirely optional, you can still show up without a gift, just don't expect one back), the party itself is still lots of fun and a great way to chill with your PhD colleagues before the Christmas holidays.

Wondering what the event looked like? Then read on for the photos!

Interfaith Dialogue Training Weekend
External events

This interfaith dialogue training gives you the unique chance to spend a weekend with people of different beliefs in a relaxed atmosphere. In a world where religion increasingly becomes part of conflicts it is of great importance that believers of good will start a genuine dialogue with one another and mobilize the positive forces in our religions to create harmony and peace. Dialogue is an attitude that can be learned. During this weekend you will be introduced to the so called Socrates method as a meaningful tool for dialogue in many situations. We will listen to people who are involved in dialogue in the Netherlands. We will also have the opportunity to attend a prayer in a mosque and in a church and we will open and close the day with our own prayer traditions.

You can browse the flyer here.

The Human Library: Meet the rector
TU Delft events

PubQuiz

"Lending people, not books"

The idea is to form a collection of living books, people with a nice story to tell. Then we will have a get-together of a small group of PhDs and the rector, and two chosen living books will tell their story, followed by an informal discussion.

Help PromooD find interesting people to become living books! You can send your submissions to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

VrijMiBo 24 February
PromooD events

For PhD students working hours are long, and work does not limit itself to working days. Nonetheless, also PhD students need to relax once in a while. Therefore, we from PromooD present our monthly VrijMiBo (vrijdagmiddagborrel), an after-work PhD get-together every last Friday of the month. So after a hard month's work you can get together with your fellow PhDs and finally talk about something else than your research.

Seminar on Handling Emotions
PromooD events

Stress, tension, depression, anxiety about the future, a sense of isolation, regret and anger about the past, a feeling of guilt, often affect an individual human mind. Also, emotional imbalance often occurs due to wide ranging interactions happening in day to day life. Practical knowledge and wisdom of how to handle these situations at a personal level is not available easily.

To share this ancient knowledge and wisdom, seminars are going to be conducted at the TU Delft campus with a cost of 95 euros (225 for non students). For detailed information, please check this form.

Developing mature leadership - inspiration from Dag Hammarskjöld
External events

World leaders are visionaries. They transform the destiny of the world. Dag Hammarskjöld was a visionary leader of his time. He was as UN secretary-general an international diplomat-mediator and at the same time he was a deep spiritual person and wrote a spiritual diary.

The International Student Chaplaincy invites you to join in a leadership seminar. In this seminar we will explore the skills and methods of different leadership styles with reference to the style of Dag Hammarskjöld. Dr.Monica Bouman will expose the leadership style of Dag Hammarskjöld which was based on an inner dialogue leading to surprising political action.

We will reflect about our own leadership qualities and the challenges we are faced with in our world today at the beginning of the year 2012.
